Rustic Modern Inspiration: Wood Paneling

Wood panelling is a classic way of decorating your walls. It has its advantages as it helps to insulate the room and also cover any uneven surfaces but it can look very dated and be more expensive than other types of wall treatments such as wallpaper or paint.

Fortunately there is a new trend that is emerging that renovates the traditional wood panelling look and helps lower its costs: using reclaimed wood. You don’t necessarily need to use reclaimed wood but using it will help the environment and it’s going to be cheaper. Also the advantage of using this type of material is that the look is going to be very unique and different: one of a kind. Not two walls are going to look the same as the materials are all going to be unique and very different.

There are other things that will make panelling more modern, such as using it in just one wall. Jump to the article to see all the photos and learn more about this type of wall covering.

And we finish with a classic pattern: plaid. Tartan, plaids can look a bit old and dated. Very wintery. But careful choices and mixing them with other patterns will provide you a very modern look and not at all winter like.

Plaids being a geometric pattern can be mixed with other patterns quite easily and used in the right amount and in the right colours will look wonderful in any house. The trick with them is not overdoing them. Too much tartan in your decor and you will suddenly have all the Scotish clans in your house. But a little bit used in either your upholstery, accessories, carpets, or even as a wallpaper will make any room warm and cozy.
