Today in Decoration Sundays: Mid-century style, green and black in your decoration, natural colours, and pastel ones in your house.
Midcentury Modern style appeared several decades ago in USA. It was no longer very much in vogue even in America until some TV shows, like “Mad Men”, made it fashionable and trendy again. It’s the kind of decor you used to see around houses in the 50’s, 60’s and 70’s. One of its characteristics was the geometric patterns used in wallpaper as the ones in the photo above. But there were other elements in this style: outdoor-indoor flow, iconic furnishings by people like Charles and Ray Eames, simple lines, statement lighting, etc.
It’s coming back and it’s trendy again, so if this is something you want in your house you might want to read the article and see all the photos illustrating its characteristics.
Green and black is a colour palette that looks very fresh and clean as you can see in the photo above. It’s a colour palette inspired by nature and both colours look very, very well together. You can introduce these two colours in many different ways. Above you can see black and white tiles on the floor and green painted walls combined with white painted furniture. It’s a laundry room and it looks very clean and modern at the same time. But you can also introduce these colours through accessories (cushions, curtains, etc.), wallpaper, carpets, and plants. Whichever way you want to do it the result will be always very fresh and clean.

Other nature inspired colours are neutrals: softer greens, browns and blues. They have the ability of creating mellow and relaxing spaces in any room or house. Combined with natural materials such as bamboo or wood they increase their connection with nature and their balancing and harmonizing effects.
If this organic style is the one for you and your house, you might want to read this article and see all the photos with the final results in different rooms.
We finish today with another article dedicated to colour. In this case we look at pastel colour. Pastel colour palettes are always trendy, they are soft, relaxing and a very easy way of having colour without overwhelming any space. Most of the times they are used in children’s rooms (children might want brighter colours, but their parents want them to sleep at nights). They are calming and restful, and they create a very relaxing decoration in any space or house.
In this article they collect a series of rooms decorated with these colours. It’s a great selection and it would give you lots of ideas to introduce these colours in your house in a non-boring way.
