Today in DIY Fridays: garden beds, concrete planters, a great beach house gate, and a stool gets pretty.
Raised-bed gardening have a lot of benefits if you are a seriously into gardening: they extend the planting season, they can reduce weeds if designed and planted properly and reduce the need to use poor native soil. Since the gardener does not walk on the raised beds, the soil is not compacted and the roots have an easier time growing.
If you are considering this type and have an old bed you will not be using again, this is the project for you. It uses an old IKEA bed frame no longer in use that is used to create the area. No need of carpenter or builder’s skills just a hammer and little more.

This is a another gardening project. In this case is not raised-bed gardening but container gardening. The woman in this blog decided she wanted original and unique containers. These types of containers in shops can be quite expensive. But if you make them yourself you will save a lot of money and you will be able to add to them your decorative touches if you wish.
All the instructions and materials are in the article. And you would be able to read about any problems you might encounter during the project (you need to be careful letting the concrete set long enough or they might break).

This project is a very beautiful and decorative one. It’s supposed to be a terrace gate, but it can very easily be a nice entry to your yard or a security gate inside for your little rugrat. The end result is very stylish and doesn’t look at all an IKEA hack. And the best part of it: it’s surprisingly easy to make.
The materials are: Gorm Shelves, a couple of boards to join them, hinges and tools to drill the holes in a regular fashion or whatever other pattern you want to create. Just finish the wood with your preferred paint or varnish it and that’s it. Fast, simple and very beautiful.
