If you have a small garden or yard you might think that creating a great space it’s a difficult task. Most of us feel that small spaces are difficult to work with when we are trying to decorate our houses or creating an enjoyable garden. But it should be. If you look at the work of gardening designers they have no problems creating great gardens regardless of their size. And the reason they are able to get great results is they follow a series of rules in their designs.

This article talks about those design rules. It will give you lots of tips and ideas that will help you in the planning stage of creating a great garden. It suggests treating your small garden as if it was a room, another room in the house and creating your design according to that. Define areas, create the bones of the garden using decking, paving, etc.

Our next article is the first before & after garden renovation. As you can see in the photo above the yard looks fantastic and definitely a place you want to spend time in so long as the weather helps. The house is in Canada and it’s very similar in size and shape to Irish house both inside and outside. The size of the yard is very much like Irish yards so it’s a renovation that could very easily look fantastic in your home.

The long narrow yard was broken into sections, creating different spaces that can be used differently. Paving has been mixed with conventional lawn creating an easy to walk space in the middle and one that will be able to deal with any amount of rain easily. At the sides they placed gardening boxes to have a more conventional gardening space.

Our second Before & After today is a very simple gardening renovation. It’s a low maintenance yard with areas to enjoy your outside space. This yard was not exactly in the best shape. It was filled with weeds and was not gardening material. The owners decided to simplify their situation and went for a bare and basic gravel and creating some structure to it. To add some green between all that grey, they added some containers and plan to add some raised gardening beds in the future.

This renovation is actually a great idea if you are faced with a yard in a very bad shape. And adding the raised-gardening boxes will provide you enough space to work out your green thumbs.

And our next article is about a house with a porch and a small separated garden. As you can see in the photo above is a practical garden with paving bricks and gardening boxes containing the plants. It’s a small little place that it’s not very difficult to maintain and has a little bit of everything.

And our last article of today is the best example we have found on how you can enjoy the outdoors in your house in the smallest places. It’s a beautiful little balcony with seating area to the left and containers all around the rest of the balcony banister. And with very little the owners managed to get a small little piece of green outdoors for their house. Low maintenance and very easy to create.
