House Tours Tuesdays

Today in House Tours Tuesdays we continue visiting our favourite entries from the Apartment Therapy Small Cool Contest 2012.

Our first entry of today has a terrific layout and lots of colour and great decor all around. It’s a 842 square feet (78.23 square metres) apartment with a very difficult shape as you will see in the floor sketch. Regardless of it the owners managed to fit an office, living room, dining room, pantry, kitchen and double bedroom as well as a bathroom. A great success in our opinion. All that was achieved thanks to a great layout and great planning of the flow between the rooms. The pantry makes use of space between the kitchen and dining room. The living room both opens to the corridor and dining room offering creating a feeling of space.

There is also great decoration: nice wood flooring through out the apartment, beautiful colours on the walls, and a very smart use of accessories in all rooms.

Our next apartment is a really tiny one of 388 square feet (36.05 square metres) in London. But thanks to its high ceilings and great planning before the renovation it manages to have 2 “bedrooms” as well as 2 “office spaces” that work as walk-in wardrobes, a full bathroom, living room, dining space and kitchen (above).

The owners went through a full renovation and they decided to make use of the high ceiling placing to 2 bed areas in the now office/wardrobe space. Thanks to it they manage to have two double bedrooms and plenty of storage space underneath. The kitchen is placed in a very awkward space and it’s one of the best examples of how custom made cabinets and furniture can optimized any space. There is also a great use of awkward space in the bathroom where the owners managed to fit a full size bath.

It’s an incredible apartment with a terrific layout that has been optimized to the extreme and feels much bigger and spacious than it actually is.

Our next apartment is a 750 square feet apartment (69.68 square metres). The apartment is actually half of a two floors bungalow. The ground floor was converted into a separate apartment and rented out to help them pay the mortgage. The upper floor was converted into their private apartment. It’s not very big it certainly suits them.

The new apartment manages to have a spare room, one double bedroom, living room and dining room, kitchen, bathroom, storage and one small office. Considering the small size of the floor it’s a great success to fit all those rooms there. There is also great decoration and great use of both pattern and colour. Some examples are the beautiful chevron pattern in the corridor ceiling and the black and white stripes on the kitchen floor (above).

It’s a beautiful and inspiring apartment. Jump to the article to read more and see all the photos.

And finally our last house tour of today is another example of working with a difficult floor plan. It’s a 832 square feet (77.30 square metres) apartment with an awkward shape and to make things more difficult some stairs to the basement. The answer for the owners in this case was use the most awkward room as living room and opening it to the rest of the house. It helps to make the space bigger and airier and increases the amount of light that comes through the windows. Beautiful dark wood flooring goes all around the place and mixes with dark wood furniture and great accent accessories.
