Today in house plans we continue visiting our favorite entries from the Apartment Therapy Small Cool Contest 2012.
Last week we brought a house tours in a small apartment with very dark walls in the living room. In that case one of the reasons the dark painted walls not only didn’t make the space smaller but enhanced was the big amount of light coming through the windows. And that is the exact same reason dark blue walls work in this apartment.
This is a a 901 square feet (92.07 square metres). Two bedrooms, a big living room, dining room and kitchen along with a full size bathroom. Both the living room and adjacent dining room are painted dark blue. In the living room the dark walls make it look very cozy. In the dining room thanks the amount of light coming in, it makes the place look modern and stylish.

This a small apartment of 515 square feet (47.84 square metres). And it’s another great example of a great layout. In that very small space they manage to have a living room with dining room by the windows and office area for two people on the opposite side. A double room, a nursery, kitchenette, full size bathroom, a several built-in cupboards around.
The magic in this case is a making use of every single space around and moving walls a little bit if necessary. The wall in the bathroom where the bathtub is, has been moving a few centimetres in order to fit in the small space a full size tub. Something similar happens in the kitchenette, as you can see above. It’s a very awkward space but thanks to a very well thought layout it provides everything necessary there. It might not be the most comfortable space to be working on but it has everything needed.
Other beautiful details are the great tiling in the splashback in the kitchen and the black stained wood flooring. They make the apartment feel very modern and stylish and not in any way as small as it really is.

Like our previous apartment, this apartment is also very small and almost the same size. In this case this Moscow apartment is 580 square feet (53.88 square metres). We like this apartment not only because of its great layout again, but also because of the beautiful details you can find around. One of them is the beautiful bevelled tiling in the bathroom very similar to the splashback tiling in the kitchenette in the previous house tour. Other similarities with the previous one are the neutral colours used around: black, white, grey and the warm shades of the wood. Unlike the previous apartment this one only has one bedroom but all the rooms are very, very big.

This apartment has lots of similarities with the previous one
Our next apartment is the smallest of today’s tours and again is a great example of a great layout. It’s a 300 square feet (27.87 square metres) and in this small space simple things manage to create separate areas in the open plan living area. In a space like this there is no room for a bathtub. In this case the small bathroom has become a wet room to fit the shower. A small kitchenette and dining area are separated from the bedroom space using a chest of drawers that works as a headboard. There is space for an office space next to the bed. Opposite the bathroom there is a big built-in wardrobe to help with storage.

And we finish today’s tours with an apartment in Sweden. It’s not an entry in Apartment Therapy “Small Cool Contest 2012” but it’s such a great small apartment we could not bring it to the blog. It’s as small as some of the entries we have brought today and it has a great decoration in neutrals (black and white) and great tiling as well with dark grout. It looks very modern and stylish and some of the spaces look much, much bigger than they actually are.
