Today in House Tours Tuesdays: we continue visiting some of our favourites entries from the Small Cool Contest 2012.
This is a beautiful small apartment of just 480 sq. feet (44.60 sq. metres). And thanks to good planning it manages to have a full kitchen with dinning area in a beautiful shade of turquoise, a bedroom with office space, a living room and a bathroom.
The colours in the apartment are soft but not boring; the turquoise kitchen gets some yellow accessories that combine very nicely and help the pink/orange tiles in the splashback area and floor. The rest of the apartment is painted in a soft cream that looks great together with the beautiful wood flooring and the bright accessories.
This a very, very small and bright apartment. It’s just 311 sq. feet (28.90 sq. metres) and in such a small apartment having a good layout is very important. A main room works as a kitchen/living room area with some office space. An alcove in that room works as a bedroom with built-in storage underneath. No big couches or sofas in here, a day bed replaces them and helps to increase the sense of space and the amount of light. Open shelves to avoid boxing the space, everything has been very well thought and planned to avoid crowding the space and help increase the sense of space. The plum painted walls finished this apartment in a very bright and modern way.
This is a 594 sq. feet (55.18 sq. metres), bigger than the previous two apartments. It’s decorated in blues, creams and whites with a beautiful wood floor and tiled floor in the bathroom. A black painted storage unit in the living room houses the tv and serves as a bookshelf and computer on each end. The living room manages to be very spacious and have plenty of seating space for visitors thanks not only to its size but also to the intelligent use of fold up furniture.
Overall is a very beautiful apartment in classic colours and that feels very spacious and fresh.
And our last Small Cool Apartment of today is again a very small apartment of 265 sq. feet (24.62 sq. metres). The space has been extremely optimized placing the kitchen in the corridor area on the way to the bathroom. The whole apartment is a long corridor that makes use of glass panelled doors between the living room and the bedroom to increase the amount of light and the feeling of space. The tv is placed against a brick exposed wall becoming the focal point in the room.
It’s a very smart layout and it’s highly optimized making use of every available metre. Highly recommend for the ideas and inspiration you could get from it.
And we finish with a prefab house that looks incredible. The kitchen and bathroom are gorgeous with beautiful coordinating tiling on floors and splashback areas. The kitchen units are black and they combine perfectly with the splashback tiling and the dark tones of the wood flooring.
The whole house took only 6 months from planning to finish which is actually quite a short space. And it’s incredibly spacious and blends with its surroundings wonderfully well.
