Synthetic Solid Surface countertops are man made. One of the most well known is Corian. They are extremely durable and tough: stain-, mildew-, and germ-resistant. If they get scratched they are very easy to buff out. Their main disadvantage is the cost. The most durable ones would be very expensive.
