Today we take a look at the elements of Asian-style kitchens. Asian style kitchens are simple and with elements that remind you of nature. Some things that characterise this type of kitchen are the emphasis in balance and harmony within them. The love for nature is evident in the use of natural materials such as wood and stone. This is not the type of kitchen where you are going to see the latest and most modern materials in any surface. Plants are also very important in any Asian-styled kitchen or house, they highlight and remind you of nature bringing it inside your house.

Natural flooring, splashes of red are also part of this style. It’s a beautiful and practical style for any kitchen and might be ideal in a family house because of its functional approach to this room.

Kitchen of the Week: Two Islands in Colorado

Occasionally we bring you small kitchens to inspire you and sometimes we bring you big ones. Last week we had an article about movable units in your kitchen and how you can actually have a kitchen island on wheels. Well, this article brings you a kitchen with not one island but two.

This kitchen is the remodel of a big kitchen of 400 sq. feet (37.16 sq. metres). Because it was a family house and they needed a practical kitchen the designer decided to create two different spaces to help with the cooking process. One of the islands is a cleaning and eating area and the other one is a preparation and cooking area. The rest of the room was optimized to help in the food preparation process. A good kitchen layout will speed up and help you in the cooking process. And if you have a family I’m sure you will appreciate any help that will speed up the process.

This kitchen is a big kitchen that will be out of the reach of many people but the layout and planning ideas are great and can be applied to kitchens of all sizes. And that’s why we like it.

Our next kitchen is a smaller one although not much smaller. But it has as the previous one a great layout and it’s incredibly beautiful as well as practical.

The kitchen has very simple cabinets painted in white and the walls are painted in a light turquoise with a mosaic tiled splashback over the cooking area. Grey granite countertops and simple knobs and handles carry the simple theme through the run. As in the previous case there is a kitchen island that helps to optimize the space creating additional working surfaces and a breakfast/eating bar. The whole look is finished with a gorgeous natural wood flooring that lightly contrast with the pale colours in the rest of the room.

It’s again another great example of great layout and great design. Even if you don’t have the space for a kitchen this size, the layout and many of the decorating ideas can be applied to rooms of any size.

And we finish today with another family kitchen in this case in a smaller size. It’s a great family kitchen and it’s open to the dinning room and living room making it look much bigger than actually is. Having an open plan kitchen and joining it to either or both the dining room and living room it’s a great way of dealing with a small kitchen. It can also be very practical for families with older children as you no longer need to worry that much about them getting into trouble in there.

As in today’s previous articles this one has very simple cabinets with a great tiled splashback around the cooking and preparation areas. It also has an island that helps to separate it from the dining and living room areas.
